Welcome to KAPAP Norfolk, a martial art for self defence

masking

KAPAP - a martial art that is an easy to learn, effective system of self-defence tactics.

KAPAP borrows heavily from all kinds of combat systems; judo, kickboxing, Tae Kwon do, but its not a typical martial art - its more flexible, there is no need to learn the names or sequences of moves such as katas. There is no expensive gi to buy, it's a case of wear what is comfortable and there are no belts or gradings as with other disciplines. For the historical origin of KAPAP and more of an in depth look at it's evolution see the What is KAPAP? section.

Utilising basic and instinctive principles, KAPAP is an easy to learn system of defensive reactions: you'll learn to defend against chokes, strangles, head locks. grabs, punches and kicks. Defending yourself against use of weapons is also covered, such as with batons/ sticks, guns and knives. See the martial arts page for a breakdown of which techniques come from which ancient and traditional martial arts.

This is a reality based training, although the primary aim is to avoid any confrontational situations, honing your level of awareness to pre-empt trouble; all the skills and experiences practiced will aid your ability to deal with a situation, if need be. The great thing about KAPAP is that it is constantly growing, absorbing new techniques, and there are no hard and fast ways of doing things: whatever works for you, works for you.

KAPAP classes in Norwich Whilst under the supervision of qualified and insured Instructors, the sessions in the gym offer a good workout. With a mixture of cardio and circuit training, a good level of fitness is encouraged. The classes are currently on a Sunday and Wednesday at the well equiped Body Rush Gym. With the class on a Tuesday for more reality based training.

Learn KAPAP to protect the moves are so intuitive and instinctive that they come very easy, there is nothing complicated, this makes it easy to learn so you will be armed with the skills and confidence to defend yourself within a few weeks.

KAPAP is practical The methods suit people of all shapes and builds, it is about technique - the physical attributes of the anatomy and tricks to gain control of a situation, that is why it works for everyone.

KAPAP is realistic for real life situatons that take into account the many different ways that attacks could happen. It is not dependant on your attacker being in a certain position or approaching you from one or two angles.

how to join

No previous skills are necessary, all members start with the foundation course - that way everyone has the basic knowledge to join in with the closed door classes. Everyone who comes to the KAPAP classes is at different levels and it works as there is someone to learn from and someone to help - and as Dale emphasises, "the best way to learn is to teach". So we all help each other to progress.

Testimonials

"The training has been all that proper training should be. It is applicable, realistic and free of so much of the ego you can find in the martial arts. I have studied a number of styles in the last 20 years and this is by far the most useful for defence.

The training has been more than just technique and fitness but also puts it in context of normal life. Realistic scenarios, awareness and general day to day conduct in order to keep safe.

The instruction has been friendly and tailored to meet the needs and abilities of the class. If you have experience already you can incorporate what you know but equally as a novice you get a solid grounding bthat will massively increase you self-confidence.

The wide range of real life experience of the instructors and guest instructors has added huge value to the training and lets you see what really works - if it does not work it does not get used!"

Ian Couch from Adventure Hub

"KAPAP is a reality based, no nonsense and effective hand to hand combat system. I've studied other martial arts in the past, and KAPAP stands out because everything we learn is pressure tested, focusing on getting job done quickly in real situations. No 'hollywood' spin kicks, no outfits, no belts, no ego's - a system that's tough but works for anyone no matter what your level experience or fitness level. I would highly recomend it to anyone"
